I just got a Naso last sunday and want to make sure that I am feeding him the right food. I usually take some mysis shrimp in a cup add some garlic supplements and also formula two flake food. No one fights for food in the tank, he eats but not like my yellow tang or my foxface. He kind of just swims around and picks off a few shrimp and that’s it. I placed some algae sheets in there today and he also just picked at it. Is this normal for him the do in a new home or is it something else?

Might still be a little shy. What kind of algae sheets did you give it? You can also try fresh broccoli ans fresh peas.

thanks guys, I tried some live brine and that seems to be what he likes the most, he is still picking at the algae sheet and the formula 2.

If it continues to be finicky, try romaine lettuce or brocolli as suggested earlier. You don't want the fish to be on a meat only diet so keep trying the greens :)

Definitely try various food stuff, and YES they have to have vegetable matter as a staple in their diet or they will get sick and probably die(lateral line disease is common with them if vegetable matter isn't given! They are grazers as well so they will look to eat almost all the time it seems so by having a food clip and attach the algae strip there it enables your Tang to graze when it wants!

Is there anything that has to be done to the lettuce or the broccoli before I introduce it into the tank? And if my yellow tang or fox face eats it will anything happen to them?

    NO!!!
other than wash it off, just place it in the tank for them to graze on it! Use Romaine, not regular Iceberg lettuce as their isn't much nutritional value in regular lettuce!
It is good for many herbivorous fish like the Yellow Tang!
