The same two Nassarius snail every night seem to mate. They become locked together with a long clear tube leading from one into the others shell. They roll around on the sand and then the pulls the tube back. This last maybe five mins. Is it possible to breed Nassarius snails? I heard it was super hard to do. Is this snail mating? :wink3:

judging from what ive seen of garden snails mating, it sounds like they are mating, but i know nothing on raising them. does the tube touch any part of the snail other then the shell?

The 2 I have in my DT have done the same thing a couple of times. The thing about them is, they have the "sniffer" tube and their mouth is a tube that looks almost exactly the same. I have no idea how they mate or transfer sperm/eggs. Does anyone here know?

so it touches the fleshy part of the snail? now im probably wrong but when they mate they both fertilize each others eggs, i forget the proper name for this. but its to increase chances of surviving. after they do this, what happens?

no no it's not the sniffer tube. It's a completely different tube that connects them together. I picked them up once and they were stuck.

yeah that sounds like it, the tube is actually sharper then a hypodermic needle, but it can latch on too. they "stab" each other to fertilize

Yes, that's what I was saying. Their mouth is a totally different tube than the sniffer tube, but it looks basically the same. I was wondering if they have yet another tube or if the mouth serves double-duty. I saw the tube on mine going from one to the other, and the first time I thought maybe one was eating the other because of the mouth tube I've seen when they eat, but they split up & went on their individual ways.

Here's a couple pics of one eating, so you can see its mouth tube (which does pierce, BTW), so you can see why I thought one was trying to eat the other LOL.

OOOOOhhhh.... I understand now. ;D sorry, I didn't understand at first. Maybe double duty. I have no clue. Let's just hope they mate and make baby snails! :p
