Natural Salinity Level

I get my water from the ocean and the natural salinity is about 1.026. From a couple references I could find this is pretty much the natural salinity level, except for places like the red sea or brackish water environments.

My gauge, alot of reference books and many in the 3reef forum recommend a salinity in the 1.022 to 1.024 range.

Why do you want to lower the natural salinity for your reef tank??

 

You dont 1.025 to 1.026 is great

 

I wish i could just get my water out the ocean.
Im afraid if i took water from the british isles, i'd prob polloute my tank. PLus i dont live near the coast!!

There is no natural level of salinity anywhere in the world .. As with Lighting and or temps . Depending season and times of the year its always different everywhere. Its all about averages for our community systems .. Thats what I base everything I do. A fish from the red sea is from totally different water and conditions then from a fish off of the barrier reef.. This applies to corals as well. on average most find 1.022 to 1.028 works well on average.
