I saw that crap too, don't know what it was!!! These bulbs have internal reflectors, but the way they are mounted they throw light straight out. With one mounted on both back and front of the canopy I don't think it would help, the one on the front is throwing the light against the wall. I don't think it helps that the walls are painted a darker brown thanks to my wife;D!

i would have to say that buliding something with a 45 degree angle over the top of the tank leaning towards the wall would have to be your best bet

You can buy heavy duty bug screen that you use in screen doors, etc, may work as it difusses light quite well and still provide a lot of ventallation...

it was the best i could do on a computer, ignore the = and just look at the / and \, the center bottom v is together ang the top of the bottom upside down v is open, the top of the top v is closed. basically diffuse the light without cutting off the air supply

You need to get yourself a reflector for that fixture. I would suggest measuring the light and checking out an electrical supplier in your area you can get a polished reflector that will not only direct the light down into the tank it will also increase the punch of the light you can make one but you will be better off finding a nice large one at an electric suppy
