Need help with skimmer

Today i decided to give my skimmer a good cleaning, i have had it running for the past 3 months, and have not fully cleaned it until today. I have the the octopus bh 800s skimmer.

When i cleaned the skimmer i cleaned the entire thing and got out all the gunk that was building up at the very bottom of the skimmer, and i cleaned both the outtake pump and the intake pump. I now have my skimmer back up and running, and i have noticed i do not have any water coming through the blue intake tube to the white. Normally i have some water going through the tubes and it usually makes sucking and gurgling noises. And now since there is no water coming through the blue intake tube to the white the skimmer has become very quiet and no longer makes the loud noises.

I can tell that the skimmer is working ok because i am getting some nice foaming in the cylander of the the collection cup. I just want to make sure this is how it is supposed to run, i am thinking i had it setup wrong before.

Below is a pic of the blue tube connecting to the white, that is where i used to have water coming through it, now it just seems to be air.

That sounds right to me Puffer Chick you do only want air being dragged in Via that tube

but IMHO based on my HOB Deltec - the collection cup is to low on the photo hence the very clean water in the cup

I have mine mounted very high so its barely located by the screw , and then get a chocolate coloured liquid in the collection cup/box

ok, so then i must have had it setup wrong in the first place, weird thing is the only thing i did to clean the pump was just push a brush up there a few times and some gunk came out, guess it really was clogged.

And i'll raise the collection cup, i still have it low, so hopefully once i raise it, i will get darker colored skimmate

so i raised the collection cup higher, im hoping the foam in the middle section will be able to rize up to the collection cup, right now its still low

on a new skimmer or a recently cleaned skimmer the foam sometimes reaches half way up, then collapses and falls back down that can sometimes happen for 2 or 3 days
thats normal so stick with it and you will be happy with the waste to water ratio you then achieve
