I have had this colony for 6 months now and it seems that something is going wrong with them. They seem to be thinning out. All my other coral are doing fine (I have mostly lps and softies) This is the only zoanthids I have in the tank. Is there a disease or something that attacks zoanthids only? I have attached 2 photos one taken one month ago when the colony was thick and now today when it is thin. It has been thinning a little everyday. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

looks kinda like zoa pox? have you checked the colony for little critter that may be crawling on them? Zoa eating nutis are pretty common.

There's some nudibranchs that eat zoanthids. Take a good look for slug-like creatures wandering around on the zoas.

I could also guess it may be an issue of feedings. Some zoas aren't photosynthetic, and many aren't fully photosynthetic, from what I understand, and need to be fed.

I see little white dots, but it is barely visible could this be something? Also can it be treated? If not will the colony survive?

    Thanks

I think it is zoa pox, I did some research and it looks exact, thanks for your quick help, now I just need to figure out how to treat it.

I think its zoa pox, there are some treatments, and some just get better on their own. As for where the colony is, i think you might need to hope for the best. The zoa pox treatments are not done 'in tank' and it doesn't look like you can take that colony out. I would be surprised if you lose the whole colony though. Bad news, you might be hose, good news, Eagle eye morphs are pretty common and spread fast.

Hi, I will suggest that next time you think something is askew with any coral, get on it right away, hopefully you can save the colony and perhaps get it all back.
