my tank has been up and running for 6 days now. went to the lfs and got 2 chunks of live rock to seed my tank. put them into the tank and i seen that i now have 2 leather corals and 1 snail about 1 inch long that came crowling out of the rock. am i going to lose these items? and sence i put the rock in i have sand floating all over the tank again. what can i use to settle in down? thanks

Hard to say on the hitchhikers. It will depend on how high your ammonia goes and how long it takes for it to breakdown.

The sand should settle down in 24 hours.

How big is your tank? Are you using dry rock with the rock you got from the LFS? What about sand, dry? Seeded from established tank? Lists of variables to give you a real educate guess. Sorry!

as 2 in 10 stated, its a bit of a lottery really

how big are these leather corals?

My opinion based on my experience is
the leathers are pretty hardy and in that volume of water, bearing in mind you will already have some establised bacteria and as such the spike should not get to high or remain at peak to long
so the leathers could survive this

in fact when I 1st started I had a finger leather, full sized one, in my 4ft set up 1 week after adding water, dry rock and dry sand , and that leather survived, albeit mostly scrunched up and shedding skin for the 1st couple of weeks it was in there

the snail may not make it IME , they can be problematic even in mature set ups for various reasons (temp, accidents etc)

It may be worth considering adding something like MB7 to the aquarium or even Hagens cycle, or Dr Tims bacteria product

whilst under normal tank development procedures - 0 live stock until tank cycles
allowing nature to provide the bacteria thats needed to support higher life forms later
I would not typically suggest these (simply because experience teaches us they are not required, as nature takes care of it for us)

but in a situation , with a newish tank, with higher life forms you want to keep
then adding a bacteria supplement to help speed up the process and take the edge of the polution conditions that a cycling tank is - would be a good idea IME
