I just got a chocolate chip starfish the other day and she seems to be adjusting well to my tank, but I'm really concerned she's not getting enough to eat. I've heard that she'll scavange pretty well on her own, what do you guys think?

It will scavenge. It's also not reef safe. Not sure if you have fish only or not. Just thought I'd give a heads up.

Yeah it's fish only, so no worries there. Thanks for the tip though. This is the first time I've had anything slow moving in my tank, so I keep looking in there and thinking she's starved to death.

Agreed, your starfish will scavenge. My boyfriend has one in his 40g that he got when his tank had finished cycling last year, and it's still doing well. Missionsix you said that a chocolate starfish isn't reef safe? Because my boyfriend has some soft corals that have been doing fairly well with it and I've never seen the starfish bothering them...

I have 3 of them in my sea horse tank and am having no issues at all. They are backup food stock for my Harlequin Shrimp. They do not bother anything, the Zoa's close up as the cross them but open a few minutes later.

Yeah, yeah some people have said that the star fish gobbled up corals, some said it left them alone for years before gobbling them, and some said it's never shown any interest. Just tell your boyfriend that it's a possibility.

i keep mine in one of my quarantine tanks and i feed it krill every once in awhile to help it grow faster. If you are worried you could try spot feeding it.

You'll know when the CC will start going downhill. The "Chips" start to disintegrate from the tip and work down. That is the first sign. So keep an eye on it. You can give it a little food (a chunk of raw shrimp----not very much) now and again and it will eat that. Just plop the CC on top of the piece of meat and it will eat.
