no need for a cannister filter. What skimmer do you have now?

can you post a pic of the wet/dry you have? throw away the bio balls, they harbor nitrates. no canister would be needed if you were to do a fuge.

i have had this skimmer for probably 5 years its made by instant ocean run by a 1200 maxi-jet. 3" pipe and 24" overall height. hooks to the side of the tank.

are you getting a good amount of gunk in the collection cup? if yes, they why fix it, if it ain't broken? post a pic when you can of your wet/dry. I used a Tidepool II with the wheel out and I made it into a sump/fuge and even though it was small, it worked great!

cool. yeah take out the stuff on the left side and put your skimmer in there and rig it to where the water coming from the tank can go into a filter sock(maybe with some carbon in it, your water is looking a little yellow) first, on the left side too. Is that a lid on the right side? I'd take that off , add chaeto, rocks, sand and a light and you are good to go.

need to add, or you can do it the other way around, skimmer in right compartment, chaeto in left.

was planning on this transformation. what is a filtersock? i was thinking about baffeling off a section for water input w/ LR rubble then overflow into the refugium section and onto the return section where it is right now. if i do it this way tho i will need to keep my skimmer on my DT. what do you think

here is a link to what a filter sock is, these might be expensive, so look around for some that aren't. Replacement Filter Socks

yes that sounds like a good idea and it's all about if you can "handle/stand" your p.s. being on the dt. alot of people don't want to see it. for me it was ok, I didn't mind, but them I got the bigger tank/sump/fuge and it fit below, so that's where it went. I say put it where you are comfortable with it being.

the baffling/lr is a good idea!:)

Off the subject here a little but what color are clown eggs? I just noticed these tiny little orange balls floating around the tank and getting sucked into the protien skimmer
