I have a 34 gallon red sea max about two and a half years old. (pics soon to come) and two days ago i bought a green mandarin. I named him Lucky because somewhere between the fish store and my place someone backed into my rental car while my car is in the shop for hail damage. so now I have two deductibles. :-[ anyways hes been hiding in my rocks since I got him. He hasn't eaten anything and he doesn't seem to be looking for pods. I tried to spot feed some mysis this morning but he just swam away. I know I need to be cultivating some pods but there should be plenty in there right now. So is this normal? Is there anything I can offer him. I've got bloodworms (just as a treat), brine, mysis and marine cuisine.

My LFS sells mandarins that are not tank raised and they do not eat frozen food. However, my LFS will be getting tank raised mandarins some time soon and they will eat frozen foods. I would let your mandarin get used to your tank and he will start to eat. But he may not eat frozen foods at all.

how long have you had him for? maybe he is a bit shocked from the trip.
Mandarins usually wont eat frozen unless they are trained to do so. Or If you get really lucky.
My mandarin pretty much ate the day after i got him, but he eats pods on my 150G. He also ate frozen at the LFS.
I would give him a bit more time. and maybe someone might chime in that has a better answer.

PS.. i saw you've had him for 2 days.
I would give him a bit more time and just watch him closely.

i've had 3 dragonets and they all ate enriched hikari frozen blood worms within days of being in quarantine. they also eat frozen and live brine shrimp. other things to try are nutramar ova, fish eggs, oyster eggs, decapsulated brine shrimp eggs, frozen baby brine shrimp. u have to feed them every few hours cause they constantly eat.

he must mean the frozen cyclop-eeze that is expensive and very nutritious from that famous company.

i would put ur mandarin in quarantine and get him eating
