    Hey Everyone,

Just bought a Hippo for my 120 on Friday and have a couple questions I was hoping someone could help out with.

It is hiding constantly.. Comes out to pick some things out of the water once and a while after I feed. Will this get better? Expensive fish to only see it 3 times a day for 2 min.. :)

I noticed tonight that it has a couple spots on it. Should I get it out of the tank and medicate? I posted this same question with my Naso and everyone said leave it.. (it worked!!!) ;D Just want to make sure this fish is not different.

At what point should I be concerned that he is not eating me out of house and home like my Naso is?

Any care tips that you could share would be great.

    Thanks!!!

How big is it and how about a pic? Does it look emaciated?

My blue hippo that I have now had about 3 weeks hid in the rocks for the first six days, never saw her until one day she just came out. I think she finally came out because she was hungry. Stomach was sunk in and she was eating pods off the glass. She now eats like a pig, stays out all day and is best friends with the Clarkii. She does randomly get ich spots though, but it's a tang, quite common for them...

It's about 4-5 inches, and looks healthy. stomch nice and plump color looks good. I do not have any pics of it yet but I can try to get one next time it is out. My concern was that my 2 year old son was stressing it out.. my house can get noisy at times. Right now I'm feeding Romaine, Formula B soaked in garlic, and Fuzzy Phytes. Should I be feeding anything else?

My Hippo does the same thing when it is spooked, it will get better when he starts feeling comfortable. Put a piece of broccoli in there for him to pick on, full of nutrients for the fish.

Broccoli is definitely better than romaine. Even for me. I rip the vein out to eat it. Can't stand the crunch.

Mine is werid, wild caught, won't eat anything I try to hang from the clip, will only eat flakes or pellets and pick on non visible algae from rocks. She wouldn't even eat flakes at first, only pods from the glass. My man said to throw a big carnivore pellet in one day for the heck of it, she went crazy for it, ate it, and has eaten flakes or small pellets since.

She was very shy the first week she was out hiding, darting back in the rocks when you'd come near the tank or move quick in the room. Now she watches us as if we're on display.

Don't worry he/she will get more comfortable soon. :)

Any fish has a good probability for being shy at first! Give her time, she will come into it! Most fish are best if left alone... taking a fish out of the tank and treating it can often be more stressful and harmful than letting nature take it's course!

to early to start stressing yet they are always getting spots when changing tanks and for sure he'll come out after his time comes:)
