Hi, I have a 20 gallon FOWLR tank stocked with 2 clowns, a devil blue damsel and a pep shrimp. I just put on a new odyessa light i ordered off ebay with 1 1000X bulb and one blue actinic a few days ago. Since then brown algae has been steadily building up on the glass and now some green, its almost to the point where you cant see in. The live rock still has coraline on it and some other lime green algae that hasn't been affected the nuisance algae it is concentrated on the glass. Do i need to take this light off? or is this just a cycle and i should clean it off and add more snails?

As far as filtration goes I have a aquaclear 50 converted into a refugium containing cheato and rubble. I also have a aquaclear 20 that contains a bag of phosban and some ammonia remover. I was planning on geting a skimmer which I may fast track due to the condition of the tank, I also only use supposed RO/DI water from my lfs.

I'm not cycling, the tank is about 9 months old. I had an algae problem about 5 months ago which prompted me to convert my filter into a refugium and and another filter.

The tank was doing great until this new light then bam algae boom.

Im going to pick up some more snails today, its funny i got the new light to help promote coraline growth and its brought about the algae apocalypse.

Is it easy to get of with a mag float? Might be green film algae. I have to clean mine off about every other day, might wanna consider a lawnmower blenny. They love algae and help clean the tank clean

Issue causing the algea is possibly the bulbs. Odyssey kinda has a terrrrible Rep for bad products, it has happened before that their bulbs are off spectrum and produce excess algea growth
