Okay..my 14K 150W halide comes in the mail tomorrow and I have a few questions since I have had pc's from the start..

    1) What is the best way to acclimate my tank to the new light? Cutting my photoperiod way down and slowly bringing it back up? or the "screen method"?

    2) I REALLY like how my tank is arranged..i have my torch coral about 2/3's up as my 'centerpiece'..if i acclimate it really slowly can I keep the torch there without bleaching it?

I feel like i had another question too...oh well..if i think of it later i'll post it

    Thanks,
    Ivan

I would just cut the photo period. Not only is it safe and effective, it also requires no work or doing anything else ;)
It would be tough to say with the torch. My feelings are that it will start to bleach. But now that you have the MH you can always get another awesome center piece, maybe a nice SPS? ;)

eh..i don't know..i know this is a sin around here but i just don't really like SPS that much lol i like stuff that waves around...but who knows..Can you think of any high light non-sps candidates? The one that comes to my mind is a fiji leather..i had one for about 2 weeks and i'm almost sure it wasn't getting enough light..i love those though..

How long do you think I should cut my photoperiod down do? it's at 11 right now with the pc's.. Rate of increase?

I heard from a member here that he made 5 layers of window screen to cover his tank and every other day he removed a layer until they were all off and the tank inhabitants were fine...there are many ways and many arguements like any thing else in the hobby....take all the ideas and find what suits you best..The screen will block alot of th elighting out ..good luck...

Is it a MH only light you are getting? Im getting a MH pc combo light next week. Im planning on running only pc's for 10 hours a day and MH for one to start. Ill bump it up one hours per day tell its 9 hours of MH and 11 hours PC.

If you new fixture only has MH can you fit both on your tank and try some sort of trasition like what Im planning?

Yes it is MH only..it's a clamp-on style so there wouldn't be a way to transition..I think i'm going to do the screen method so i can still see my tank for more than a couple hours a day..

Did you happen to get the JBJ P2 Viper? Coralife? or eBay noname?

Just curious because I'm in the market for a clamp on. I like having a wide open tank top without a bulky fixture covering everything up.

You do not have to waste your time doing the screen method. Start doing 6 hours for a few days with the MH and increase an hour ever 3-5 days. You should still move your torch if you can to the bottom on the sand maybe in a PVS piece for support. Red Lobos can go up high. Actually anything red can go high. Closed Brains can also.

Okay so this light is awesome..my tank looks 1000 times better..the quality of the light is amazing..my ONLY complaint is the mounting brackets..there is a setting for around 10 degrees from the tank..and negative 10 degrees..not paralell..maybe there is some scientific reasoning for this that i am not aware of but as of right now i think it's stupid..I'll work on getting some pictures of it up later if my camera decides to cooperate.. hopefully it likes the new light! I've decided against the screen method just because it involves driving to lowe's..finding it..BUYING it..driving back...i have too much studying to do tonight to deal with all that lol

i guess i'm on the search for a new centerpiece..open to any suggestions!
