I added live rock to my cycling tank 1 week ago. Since then I have been looking for signs of copepods but have not seen any. I look late at night with a flash light but all I have ever seen was one amphipod, and have not seen it since.

By the way my sand was from an existing setup that was broken down so it should have been "live".

    My tank has finished cycling.

Is it to early to see copepods or did I just not get any?

Just give it time. They need time to grow and reproduce. How much live rock do you have and why are you so interested in seeing copepods?

    Thanks for the reply guitarman.

I have about 150 lbs in a 100 gallon tank with a 20g sump and 10 g fuge. I hope to keep a madarin at some point in time I guess about a year down the road, so I just wanted to make sure that I would have copepods populating.

How long does it normally take before I can see them on the rock or glass?

Give it a couple of months, you have lots of rock so no worry there. There are products that contain live copepods that some people use to seed their tank with, but I don't see a need to that. I actually thought I didn't have any until I looked at my tank at night and saw them. I also find lots of dead ones in my overflow.

I have another question. My tank got cloudy all of a sudden today. The nitrites dropped to zero yesterday so I assume it finished cycling. Is this normal?

    Possibly bacteria bloom?

Cloudiness in the tank is usually an ammonia spike. Test for that. NO3 is the least harmful component in the ammonia cycle. NH3 and NO2 are the fish killers in the tank cycle.
