    Crap...
I got my new sixline wrasse on Saturday. He's in quarantine all by his lonesome self. Even ate a mysis shrimp yesterday. But today (now that he's out of the pvc pipe a bit more often) I can see that his fins are starting to fray. The fish is still active and does not seem to be in any distress. Just the fin fraying. Any ideas what's going on?
    Please help!

Sometimes fish get frayed fins, however, they will usually grow back together. One thing about Wrasses is they are very skiddish/nervous and spook easily until they get accustomed and acclimated to your tank...be careful with what you keep with your Wrasse as far as fish are concerned-they should be community/non aggressive fish(especially for reef safe ones)!

I'm hoping that he'll do fine in my tank with the other 2 fish (see profile). I have plenty of live rock with nooks and crannies for him to feel safe in. But I need to get him through the 2 weeks of QT first!
After posting (and taking a deep breath or 2) I did a full water test. And wouldn't you know it, my pH was 7.8 and my ammonia was at .50...Somehow it never occured to me that I'd get a spike so fast with just one fish. Friggin' genius, I is. Twenty percent water change has been done and Kent pH buffer added. Fingers crossed.

Wrasses are usually pretty hardy fish. My six line has even become somewhat of a bully in my 55. Take heart!
