I think Im ready to add some fish (Slowly of course), trying to come up with a basic, inexpensive beginners stock list. Im looking at a firefish goby, kupang damsel, and black and gold chromis. Yes/no on compatability, should any be paired/single? Its a 36 gallon and looking for reef safe.

Heard that damsels can be aggressive. My 3-stripe damsel was one mean fish. It picked on my chromis all the time. Not sure if kupang is going to be as mean.

Well from what Ive read the kupang is one of the least aggressive of the damsels, which is why I didnt consider the 3 stripe.

Bangaii Cardinal instead of the Damsel...I don't care what type of Damsel it is, it'll be aggressive...and near impossible to catch.

After reading about the Cardinal they seem pretty cool. Would one be fine alone with the firefish and chromis?

Picked my first Bangii yesterday and he is the sweetest little guy. The only thing that happened was Gman swam over to the new comer but he went back to his rock after realizing Albert was no harm to him. My clowns even left him alone. :)

+1 on a Banggai, love them, have a mated pair in my tank and they are hardy, beautiful, & a great choice

If i can make a suggestion on replacement for damsel:

Rock beauty. Mine is not aggressive at all. It's fun to watch. It always swims around and squeezes between rocks vertically or horizontally. It's very colorful. I think technically it's a bi-color dwarf angel fish. By far most interesting/fun fish in my tank. It likes to pick on algea, eats some flakes but really loves red nori with garlic. That bright saturated yellow color with black really pop out in the tank.

Just picked up a Bangii, acclimating as I type. This is my first saltwater fish, so hopefully all goes well.
