New Tank Thread

I have the POS Nova Extreme 8x54 with Lunar. 2 bad Ballasts in a row. Yuck..

I have not cleaned, changed water or anything in the 11 weeks , just added RO/DI. At the 3rd week is when I transfered my fish and LR from the existing tank. Well, I did clean the skimmer once, a couple weeks ago.

2 weeks ago I added the last batch of LR. from the LFS.

I did add two doses of Colonize during this process, not sure if that did anything or not.

Thats the problem, you added the LR 2 weeks ago, your going through a small cycle. Just wait a couple more weeks and test every week. Luna

Good to Bad to Worse

So,
The replacement Ballast from Current came in as did the extra I bought from DFS. They are both the same, thats good.

Bad news is, they are smaller than the ones in the unit. The part numbers are similar but not exact. Sure it's possible these are the new style ones due to the obviously flawed originals, but the frame doesn't line up to install them.

Maybe if I replace two on one side they would fit, but I dont know if these are the right parts or not. Would different ones cause more issues ?






Needless to say at this point I am quite frustrated and looking for a new light fixture..

 

Sorry about the novas...You shouldn't have to go through all that just for a light fixture!! If you ever reconsider, go for TEK lights!!! I know i say that a lot but it's worth it!

 

I just may do that. In the mean time, this is weird.

So I have the Nova Extreme 48" 8x54 432 watt system with Lunar lights. Model 1123.
Here is the weird part, I just searched around and my light looks like the PRO, but I know its not. It has one reflector. The Nova with Luner looks completely different.

Now I'm just confuse. I wonder if they are changing models and I got caught in the mix.

Week 5 Tests

Here are the numbers at week 5

ALK: 2.8 , (Switched to Sailfert ALK/KH test kit)
KH: 8 , (Switched to Sailfert ALK/KH test kit)

N2: 0
N3: 0
P4: 0
Ca: 400
Mg: (Test kit was empty, ordered more)
SG: 1.024 .5

I added 65ml of the Bulk Reef ALK. I want to get the KH up to 10.

Today I will clean the Skimmer and Sump, no water change just yet , just some cleaning of the pump filters.

I would say I am good to go now. 5 Weeks plus the original 4 weeks I think its done its course.

I need to get the QT up and running again so I can pick out my next tenants.

 

I may be an Idiot..

OK, so I may just be an idiot.
Here is what happened.

The original Nova I intalled worked for one week then the back two 10 went out. I swapped the other 10k into its place and still no go. OK, bad Ballast. Bring it back, get a new one.

After one week with the new one. , the same back two 10k are out. Yup, I freaked out..
So I ASSumed that is whas the Ballast as before, I immediatly called for replacement parts. I ordered one fromn DFS so I can have a spare and Current-Usa sent me one under warranty.

This is when they came in and were the same, but different than what is in the unit. Yup, now I really freaked..

I put the bulbs back in some order who knows really.
So now, the two 10k's up front are out and the back ones are good.

Hmmm, could it be. So I took the front 10ks and swapped with the front 460 that were lit. Now the 460 are still lighting and the front 10 are not.

DOH!! Looks like bad bulbs. Was it the ballast that Blew them or a coincidence ?

So I may order two 10k bulbs to see what happens.

So If the bulbs come in and work, then OK, I'm and Idiot.
