I have recently come across some aquarium equipment and have decided to start a salt water tank. I am very new to this and am just trying to get info from books, my local fish store, and these forums.

Here is a picture of my tank
    [IMG]

The tank is 75g, and I have 76lbs of live rock, and used 3 bags of live sand. Since this picture (two days ago) I have removed the power head on the left (it was from walmart) and began using this light - 48 inch 2x65 Watt Current USA PowerCompact Single Satellite Fixture

So far the only thing I had to purchase was the light off a friend for $50.00. The filter appears cheap and looks like a standard one you would use on a fresh water aquarium, so Im definatley looking in to knew filtration. My Ph was around 7.9 and salinity 1.022. I dont have any of my other readings on hand. Any advise on filters, heaters, or anything else thats a must have I would greatly appriciate.

    one word skimmer

some more words to follow: a protein skimmer is the best possible filtration for a saltwater tank. it is important to get a good one. so reading review or getting recommendations is important. i reccommend a coralife 125 or a octopus(don't know the types but get one rated for more then you gallonage.
i will let other people get the heaters and lighting. so i don't get all the good karma here

Welcome to the salt world..!!! AS stated above a skimmer is your best friend so make sure its goin to be a good one. Lighting is always a touchy subject.. Due to what kinda tank you want to have.. Eather it be Fowler (fish only) or Reef of course with Corals. Then the next step is what kinda corals you want to try growing will depend on the wattage and Kelvin Rating you would like..
So now is the best time that your tank is cycling to do lots of research and ask lots of question on here.. There will always be someone to point you in the corect direction..!!

    Good luck..!!!
