Hi folks. Just found this place while researching an aiptasia problem. I've been setting up my first marine tank recently, and just found my first weed. I took the brave (or foolish) step of removing the rock and carving the aiptasia off under a slow running flow of RO water. Time will tell on that one, but if it returns in any numbers I think I'll probably go down the peppermint shrimp route.

    Anyway, here's the set-up.

The fish you see were added one day by our daughter. Printed off from a web search and stuck on the outside of the glass.;D

Then with the live rock installed.

We now have some of these...

Also a brittle starfish, turbo snails and finally a Yellow Tang. Also got some pulsing Xenia and a couple of other soft corals. No photo yet.

Gonna have a look round and see what I can find about aiptasia, see what the little devils can do.::)

    Welcome to 3reef!

I love cube tanks, good choice.

Plenty of info on aiptasia if you do a search. (I used Joe's Juice.)

SHe is a subtle one eh? ;D

    Thanks for joining....

If the aiptasia is big enough inject it within the base with some lemon juice, that should do the trick!

    The live rock looks super!

Well, I got a pic this morning of another one (weed?) Can someone confirm this is aiptasia? There's a couple of other smaller ones (too small to inject I doubt) but they've been there since it was set up and don't seem to get much bigger.

Those look like polyps to me. They don't really look like aiptasia or majonos to me.

They are definately polyps, I got some of those on my live rock too! Give them time and they should start to open up.

You don't want to get rid of those! ;D

OK, I highlighted the one in question. I forgot to do it when I uploaded the pic, so have a look at the one in the red circle. Is that still a polyp? It's way different to the others.

Yup, that's a polyp all right. It looks different than the others because the others are not fully open while the one that you circled is :)

Well, it's certainly a different breed of polyp then. The others all open up with a nice 2 tone green centre, and a ring of brown lashes round the outside. This one seems to stay open all the time aswell, and the crabs etc. all avoid it.

The one I evicted was about an inch tall and a head about the size of a wine bottle cork with longish tentacles. I just thought these were the same sort of thing as they're different to the polyps.

    8) Came home with a peppermint shrimp today and a pair of clowns aswell. Just introducing them to our water now. Another half hour and they'll be going into the tank.
