    Hey all,

Just wanted to drop a line and say hello!!

This place is great, and thank you to all for the outstanding info. I just started my first salt water reef/fish tank. This is what I have compiled so far.

29 gal Oceanic Aqua Cube with stand
    Chemipure instead of the bio-balls
    Coral light timer power tap
    Surge Protector
    Live sand (1")
29lbs Live rock (adding more this weekend)

the LFS guy said that I could start with Hermit crabs and a couple snails so I added the following:
    1- black turbo snail
    1- Astera snail
    15- Hermit Crabs

I think I may have put to many Hermits in, because I want to add a couple cleaner shrimp in a month. Any recomendations?

I also was wanting to add a couple of Pepermint Shrimp.

Thanks to all, and I hope to pick all of your brains!!;D

Welcome to 3reef and be prepared to not see those peppermint shrimp as they are nocturnal. I have heard of of few that gets lucky and has some that do not hide that much but I haven't had one yet.

I wouldn't know I even had one. Every now and then he graces me with his presence during feeding time, and grabs some food. Otherwise, never see the lil guy.

Would you recoment getting "fire shrimp" and Cleaner shrimp then?

I have read people have all three, but they dont mention the size of their tank though..lol

It get the sense of a split decision on the combination of shrimp. It all depends if you get a mean one or a decent one.

    Welcome to 3reef!

My peppermint lives in a hole that right's up front. I ALWAYS see it. Lucky me ;)

If you're just setting up, you will have to cycle the tank. I wouldn't plan on adding any shrimp (or other critters) until after the cycle. Plan on 4-12 weeks. Search "cycle" or "nitrogen cycle" here on the 3reef threads for a TON of info on this.

You might be OK with those snails and hermits while you cycle. Although I think it's a little dubious that the LFS told you that.

    Good luck!

    Pictures?
