    Hello,

I am new to this site but figured I could get some good help on here. I had a 125 gallon saltwater tank 4 years ago and we moved and everything died in it. Since then we have not set it back up but are in the process of setting it back up this weekend. On main question I have is we had a lot of live rock in it and after everything died off we just put the rock in plastic totes and stored it in our basement.

What should we do to get it ready to put back in. Should we scrub it down really good? Also will it grow coraline algae again?

I would appriciate any advice you would be willing to give me:)

IMO...just clean it well...bleach it in the sun, if ya want...put it in the tank with RO/DI water and the proper salt gravity...let it cycle for about 10 to 14 weeks...testing here and there...get some snails and crabs after about 6 to 8 weeks....give ya a chance to get all your other "stuff" together. did I say test? check out the other forums on this site about cycleing tanks and rock and roll!! Sounds like you been down this road before...but alot has changed...but not the basics.
    Good luck...and welcome back.

welcome to 3reef  LG gave good advice. You might want to throw a piece or two of some live rock in there too. No, the coralline that was alive, is no longer alive and will not regrow.

Ok! thanks for the advice. How long should I wait to put the rock that I have in the tank after I get the water in?

I'd put all the rock/sand you want in when you put the water in, otherwise, if you put rock in after your cycle is complete, you run the risk of cycling again.

+1 on all advice given above

    Ill just add
new coralline will grow, but you may have to add a couple of new pieces of live rock with coralline on to seed the re growth on the old rock.
