Hey!!! Im new to the site and relatively new to saltwater tanks. I have had my tank for 2 months and most of the rock and coral in my tank was from a friends established 30 gallon tank.

    My current setup:
    -20 gallon tall
-Solar extreme deep blue T5HO lighting
    -rio 547 gph powerhead
    -marineland 75w tank heater
    -Aqua clear 20 gallon powerfilter
    -25-30 lbs of live rock
    -13 head frogsawn
    -Green Goniopora colony
    -Pulsating xenia colony
    -Red and purple mushrooms
    -Yellow eyed tang
    -Blue Tang
    -Long nose hawk
-I also have 2 starfish; one that sifts the sand bed and a little red one
-cleaning crew: 6 snails, 1 turbo snail, 5 small hermit crabs

    Heres a pic:

I am aware of the extreme bioload on the tank (especially for my filter) and i do 2 gallon weekly water changes. I am currently looking into a HOB skimmer. I am between the aquamaxx and the octopus; I started a thread in the protein skimmer section if you would like to give me your input there. I also have an aquaclear 110 gallon power filter on order to convert into a small refugium. Im open to any suggestions that would help me out and im happy to be a member here to collect as much knowledge as i can!

2 tangs in a 20 gallon??????? You need a 75 or 90 gallon for that. Those fish need to be moved asap

For 2 months into the hobby I'd say you have an awesome looking tank. Has the coral been in the tank for 2 months as well? It looks healthy and established, otherwise I would have concerns. (obviously?)

You'll be better off getting rid of the star fish, turbo snail, and hermit crabs because they will knock things over and make you very upset. The sand sifting star fish will likely die, simply because of how delicate they are. Instead try a CUC from reefcleaners.org. They are great. You could spend $20 (including shipping) on a "quick crew" and it would be all you ever need for your 20 gallons.

As for the tangs, it's not simply about the bio-load of the tank, it's that they need a lot of room to swim around. The tangs will not work in a 20g tank no mater how many water changes you perform. I can't even have any in my 40 gallon, so I know how much it sucks, but it's the cold truth.

Welcome to 3reef. You'll learn a lot here.

thanks everyone. The corals were put in a month after i set up the tank but the yellow eye has been there since the day i set it up, it needed a home and nobody i knew, that had a tank, would take it. Thanks for the suggestion on the CUC ill take a look at that. Do you guys have any suggestions on a skimmer?
