hello everyone I'm new to the site and i want to upgrade my 65 gallon light. I'm sure you guys get these questions all the time but I'm been searching online for over a week and i can't find information. right now i have a 2 bulb t5 coral light and i would like to upgrade it.

my budget is around $300 or maybe a little more but i Can't hang the light from my ceiling and my tank is 36 inches wide and 24 inches top to bottom. theres just so many led light out there and I'm going crazy looking at the.lol

what kind of light could i use with my budget? I'm planing on making my tank into a reef tank with corals soft and hard. i just got the tank so theres is only is only 2 damsels in it right now. but i would like to get a light that i can grow into.

also i have been looking at aquatic life edge led light? is it any good? i like how it has a timer and the Sunrise and Sunset effect but just don't know if it a good light i can't find review on it.

Any help i would really appreciate the help. thank you

i use radions G1 and they allow me to keep nems and grow sps. as for the canopy or light fixtures go "where there is a will, there is a way" meaning its really not too difficult to make DIY aquarium top to hang your lights from.

I have read a lot of information about LED fixtures as i am wanting to upgrade to LEDs which are strong enough to support SPS. What you will want to look for is 3 watt leds. Those are the only ones strong enough to support sps and the fixture you mentioned in your post, Aquatic Life Edge, has .5 watt leds and seems more of a fish only type of light. There are a few posts on here where people have listed some pretty good deals on led lighting. And i do believe you will be able to find what you are looking for in your budget. My only advice is to find the fixture you are going to be happy with for the next 10 years and save for that one since the life expectancy is 10 years for leds. Hope this helps :)

ok thank you for the tips and opinions. i went to a fish store on Saturday and they had the "current led marie lights" on most of there tanks and said they had a lot of luck with these light. they didn't have a 36" light there so i went home bought one on amazon. and got it got it today. and I'm very happy with it. its a little confusing trying to figure out programming everything but i'll figure it out eventually . lol

I have a 60 gallon fish and live rock only (but do have 2 clams). Just bought Fluval Sea Full Spectrum LED 36". My tank is 3 feet long. Paid $210 at Petco. Works great. Huge difference from what I had. Cant dim it though which most people prefer. I couldn’t hang lights so I needed a strip bar of sorts. Fits perfectly when I remove my fluorescents but leave the canopy. Feedback I got was Fluval wasn’t good but I’ve found it to be very good. Love the moon light function. It was taking me so much time researching and I didnt understand all the different type of LEDs and jargon people would use. But knew I couldn’t hang a light from ceiling so I pulled the trigger and bought it. Love it and glad I did. My clams are thriving

You really can't go wrong with a radion or possibly an Aqua Illuminations unit. I have used both and had no problems growing sps, S. Gigantea and Mertens nems and any LPS. You should be able to pick up a used one in that price range.
