I'm just curious how many other hockey fans are on here who can share my depression about the lock out.

Based on the number of players making deals to play overseas, it looks like they've hunkered down for a long stand off. It almost seems like they've been told that the season is probably a write off.

Haven't been following enough to know any details but I'll definitely miss watching my Flyers once the weather turns colder and I can't be outdoors as much.

Devils fan here...this depresses me beyond belief. Hockey is my favorite sport. I will miss it until January, when they finally reach a deal. Can anyone say Rangers win ANOTHER shortened season Stanley Cup. ::)

Huge Bruins fan here, so very sad with how the NHL is doing this. I finally have a number of my friends actually watching hockey and they do this

    SFYL ;D

Actually they had a really good year last year and came very close to beating the NJD (much closer than I would have though anyways!).

Anyways, most are saying they will be playing by or for the Winter Classic, but who knows.

I think that one major sticking point is that the league wants to go after those long term contracts that were intended to circumvent the salary cap restrictions. Some of the biggest stars in the game are on contracts like that, and could find them cancelled under a new collective agreement.

If they lose a whole season, or a significant part of one, all the in-roads that the NHL has made in the smaller US markets since the last lock out will vanish.

Sadly, this could very well be the death of the NHL. I'm just recovering from the last lock-out. I was a rabid Av's fan and the NHL used to be appointment TV - it probably helped that the Av's were good back then - and I was just starting to get into it again.

IMO, the NHL needs to realize that they're the country's biggest niche sport and stop acting/spending like they're one of the big boys. They don't have the perma-fans in the US that NFL, NBA and MLB have. Obviously a different story in Canada...

Hopefully they'll make a deal they can sustain this time, and they need to do it quickly.
