I don't think so because I sat with him the first time he did the tests. Plus if he got 0 at other times .... ?

Tangster when you say a good set of test kits what do you use? I was told this kind was the better ones but several people.

Let say at this point I can't afford a coil de-nitrater, what is another alternative?

Also about the discolored sand-if it looks like that from the front through the glass, according to the book "Reef Invertebrates" it is only aglae and other micro-organisms and is not dangerous--it's OK.

I knew that it is ok but can it cause my nitrates to go up?

I would get yourself a po4 reactor to begin with. Even though youmay me reading zero on the test you will still have some. A denitrating coil from tangster works great and would recommend getting one when the funds are in order. What kind of biological filter do you have as well. As for test kits I have some of the Red sea test kits and they work pretty good but the Saliferts are better by far. And I am slowly switching to them as I run out of the Red seas.

Algea will not cause nitrates to go up. Nitrates and Phosphates cause algea to appear. In turn if there is nothing to feed the bad algea there won't be any. Do you have a dsb, any live rock

Dsb's are great to look at but sometimes they can cause more harm than good.
