will corals live or die without nitrates?

    I dont think it gets to the point of life or death, but I know that some corals consume No3. Luna

    They'll die without nitrates. Without them there would be high nitrites/ammonia.

    I'm basing my answer on the fact that I think this is more of a trick question. Without no3, the nitrogen cycle wouldn't work. Therefore, corals would die without nitrate??????

    I could be wrong luna, that was an "off the hip" answer. Reef Guru or, anyone else? So, what's your vote luna?

    Honestly, I think that it doesnt matter to the coral. I'm sticking with my first answer. Luna

    I also wonder if it's partially why goniopora/alveopora are so hard to keep.

    After I researched Goni's, I came to the conclusion that Goni's need water conditions that we cant give them b/c of the other corlas in our tanks. Most corals need prestine condtions to be healthy. Goni's need, what I call "dirty water" . Luna
