Hi. Like I post in other thread mu Nitrates are in 10-15 range. I have a lot of SPS ( Im beginner with them). For a while I did not have problem with Nitrates but now i think maybe I added couple fishes that Im not supposed to… So what is the best solution to lower Nittrates. I do 25 gal. water change every couple weeks in my 125 system. also I have a Cheato and Mangroves in sump. Is Vodka dosing helps control Nitrates? If yes, any good links how to do it? Or even better just how you started and doing it now..Please help. I'm little desperate. Thanks

    How old is the tank?
Vodka works. I hear vinegar is better..(less cyano from what I hear) Or there is a mixture of Vodka, Vinegar and sugar. The VSV method.
All of above take a couple months to really start working and require a good bit of research.
Reefkeeping magazine has some good guidance on vinegar and vodka dosing.
Do you have a good skimmer?
A good bacteria supplement will help kick start things. Prodibio digest works well.
The tank looks good in the pic so just take it slow and read a lot

Honestly, unless algae is taking hold and corals are looking bad, I wouldn't bother chasing numbers. Keep up with your husbandry, make certain your skimmer is adequate, feed within reason and observe your coral.

Chasing numbers just leads to instability, ime.

I don't know. I feed my fishes every other day and it looks like they are hungry. If I start feed them every day then for sure Nitrates will go up. My tank is 8 years old but I started with SPS a year ago so Im new with them… But for sure if Nitrates will go up to 20-25 I will start losing some of them, right? Did you guys deep them with that high level of Mitrates? Probably not. Man, Im so scared, tank looks beautiful like never before but I know I should feed more… I might start dosing vodka tonight. Friend gave me good link as to follow on reefkeeping.com

I don't check nitrates in my system, never have, so I'm not sure what the threshold is.

How many and what fish do you have?

    What skimmer do you have?

    Chaeto?

    .

Unless your numbers are continually climbing, your statement is why I wouldn't touch a thing with regards to your tank. Contrary to some beliefs, nutrients are very much needed to maintain coral coloration in SPS. I suffered from pale coral for the longest time due to depressed organics.

If your tank is doing well, why chase an artificial number?

Pretty heavily stocked. What version of the Reef Octopus? Are nitrates stable or continually rising?

I know. I made a mistake of adding Naso (small tho…) and Hippo .Since I added Naso and Hippo they are rising. XP- SSS1000 Cone

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Nitrates of 10 would not make me bat an eye. Your tank is obviously thriving, I do not see a lot of algae growth. Is there any algae growth at all?
