I hope. Just put in my RO-DI from air water ice. Took 20 min to set up, flushed for an hour, and now it's making pure water. TDS of my tap water was > 2000. Now it's 0!

now i just hope the algae will go away so i can see my rock.

That should really help. Man your water is pretty messed up. I would get color changing DI resin because i would bet that thats going to get exhausted rather quickly with those numbers

Your TDS was 2000? Man I thought my water as hard at 300. Yours must be coming out of the tap as sand.

+1 on the DI resin. If your TDS going in is that high it is probably still pretty high coming out of the RO. You'll go through that resin fast. Probably worthwhile checking the TDS between the RO and DI sections to get an idea. My TDS out of the RO section is 5-7 ppm and my DI resin was exhausted after a year, probably earlier. I didn't get a TDS meter until recently and found that my resin increasing the TDS level rather than reducing it because it was exhausted.

Now that I've got clean water, i decided to scrub my rock - every piece was covered with 2-inch long hair & briopsys. after some time with the bristle brush, it's lookin good. hope the rodi keeps it from growing back.

    i hate algae!!

so i started with a 75 filled and refilled with tap (well) water. my tank became an algae farm

for xmas i got myself a rodi unit, and then scrubbed the rock clean
    i scrubbed again in february
    and in march
    still i'm getting algae.

i found an old reefsparky post that suggested "7 steps" to being algae free (although now i cant find it again - sparky help?!?)

    so now i've
    1) got rodi
    2) scrubbed my rock clean
    3) have a fuge with chaeto growing and a dsb
    4) now keeping my mg at > 1600 b/c i had briopsys on my rock
    5) started a phosban reactor (last week)
    6) removed all my crushed coral and 3" deep bed (no good, i know) and now have a 3/4 " bed of oolitic sand (and yes, it took 48 hours for the oolitic sand storm to clear)

i have the other basics (feed very little, have a cuc composed of hermits, lawnmower blenny, turbo and narcissus snails)

hopefully now i will have a nice clean tank...

if anyone has any suggestion for what i should do now to add to this multiprong approach to getting rid of algea, let me know!! thanks!!!

manual removal of your algae wether it is scrapping glass or pulling hair algae will also help. it will tke a very long time if you are putting all your hopes into the RO/DI. make a larger water change and manually remove at first and add to your CUC and you will be in business

i took each rock out and scrubbed the heck out of 'em. several times. they're clean now. the ones i can' scrub clean (2 rocks, due to very irregular surfaces) i put in the sump where it's dark.
