The overflow box on our 55 is super noisy and the candycane always develops an air bubble in it. Any suggestions on how to prevent this and keep the slossy annoying noise down?
    Thanks.

Oh yeah, just the standard hob with a box in the tank and another on the outside connected by a platic candycane tube. I believe that the plumbing down to the sump is 1" pvc.

What size return pump are you using? If the pump is too small for the overflow, the flow through the U-tube (candy cane tube) will be too slow and air bubbles will collect. If the bubble gets too big the siphon will break and you will have a flood on you hands.

As for noise have you looked into a durso inside the overflow box?

Also a pic or a sketch of your plumbing would really help

I agree with advice so far.

the tube is called the U tube
Some use a slotted corridor instead.

And as said, I hope you have a shut off valve- an automatic one if that siphon stops. How much will your sump flood your flloor if the siphon quits?

I started with a HOB overflow box, too small for my set up, so I now have a much larger, higher flow surface skimming Intank and Large HOB overflow that always keeps siphon in power outs, etc.

Thanks, I'm not sure of the pump size, we bought the setup used. I'll shoot some pics tonight after I get home. I do have a "catch basin" under the tank setup in case of a power failure or loss of siphon, but eventually I want to change tanks and re-do the whole thing.
