Has anyone uded the Redsea O2 test kit ?
So the test is easy enough and the chart is easy to look up your number, but it doesnt tell you if its good or bad or if higher or lower is better or worse/. I just have a number of appx 6.8

So is this good bad or what ??

I dont have Red Sea, but I do have Salifert. Salifert says, " In marine water an oxygen concentration of at least 7 mg/l is advisable. " Luna

OK, just took it as a reading of 7 at 80' and 1.023 salinity. So I guess that is good.

Any idea if higher or lower is better ? So If I start testing this weekly I will know what to look for ?

    Thanks Luna..

80' ???? I dont uderstand. I think that the higher is better, just means that theres more O2 in the water. Of course, you dont want it too high. The higher the O2 levels, the higher your ph is going to be. Luna

80 degrees. couldnt find the little circle thingy for degrees..

My test kit has a chart that say at a certain temp and salinity your )2 should be X, thats why I listed my temp and salinity.

    OK then

    Thanks

You should not be having to test for 02 levels, EVER. Water can only hold a certain amount of oxygen. The warmer the water the less the water can hold O2 but this will increase the amount of o2 and CO2 released and absorbed, through diffusion, at the surface. If you have water movement it will help also. The more the water moves the more diffusion you will have. I would not be worried about the o2 levels. If you fish are gasping and dieing or you are having ph swings then I would be concerned. JMO

Well, I wanted to check to see if I needed to add any air stones to this new set up. I have an open top, plenty of surface movement, and the intake in the sump looks very airated. I wanted to avoin airstones if possible so I checked to see where I am at.

No PH fluctuations, but my Flame hawk is always breathing heavy so sometimes he scares me a bit.

Other than that I think all looks good.

I guess it never hurts to know whats what. I may not test weekly now htat I know, but I think its good to know.

    Cheers
