So right now I have a single ocellaris clownfish and am going to get another one later on, my girlfriend promised me one for my b-day :). My question is has anybody ever had success pairing b&w ocellaris with a regular orange/white ocellaris? I've had great success pairing regular ocellaris before but I just like the b&w ones a lot. I would think that since they are both ocellaris that it would work just fine but I just want to double check before I try.

well considering you are adding them at separate times there is a good chance of fighting amongst the two of them, even if they were the same type of clown. but personally, no, i have not heard of that. good luck if you decide to go for it though!

That's how I paired up my clownfish last time. I had one for a while and then added a smaller one. There was a bit of chasing but later that night they sorted out their differences.

I've had an ocellarius clown in my tank for about a year, I just recently added a picasso clown and they've gotten along fine, not nipping or chasing or anything. I know it's not the same thing, but I think there's a chance, especially if you clown is pretty peaceful and if there is a noticeable size difference.

Just make sure to either get one lots bigger, or lots smaller. The dominate one ends up being the female - since they are hermaphrodites they smaller one switches to the male. Like anpgp said, they might chase a while for dominance, but shouldn't be too bad. (I'd keep an eye out just in case!)

My current clown is surprisingly peaceful. It's become best buds with my gold headed sleeper goby, it's just the two of them for now. They swim together all day long and the clown really coaxes the goby to swim higher up in the tank and the goby does the same, brings the clownfish down lower in the tank. I did tons and tons of research on clowns before I did my first pair so I'm more than well aware of how all of their mating and pairing rituals are.
