    Hey Everyone,

I just bought an Octopus BH 800 protein skimmer and boy has it ruin my experience with skimmers... I thought this was going to be one of those skimmers that you plug in and enjoy :) I soon found out that was not the case at all. I follow the ambiguous directions and manage to set everything up correctly. However, when i plugged it in, that's where all the problems started.

The first column (the farthest one on the Right) seem to be sucking in air and makes this loud gargling nose. I have tried everything to try to fix this problem, switching up the hoses, turning the air valve in both direction, manually sucking the hose that create the suction, in the end nothing... Its LOUD and will not go away. I mean it's taking in water just fine, but seem to not get enough water (even though the suction is working perfectly)

Second, it creates WAY too many microbubbles. I have tried to plug the return pump with the foam piece that came with it, redirect it to the back of the wall, turn down the air valve, and again, nothing... I know people say it takes some time to "break it in", but i have a reef tank and the amount of microbubble that's being put off is way to hazardous for my soft corals.

Any, if you have any suggestion, experience, or tips please share it with me. I have tried everything and my tank has been protein skimmerless for more than a month. Thanks everyone! :)

I've been having the same issues with mine, i've had it running for 2 months now. This is my first skimmer and i also expected it to be plug in and play, but it's not. The blue air intake tube is VERY touchy. I'm constantly having to adjust blue tube because of the noise, i have the tank in my room so i just kind of deal with it, and at night when i sleep i just do my best to block out the noise, it's annoying but i'm kind of used to it now, but just still constantly adjusting it.

As far as the microbubbles i had the same problem even after the 2 week break in. Just recently i have gotten a filter sock and put it over the outtake tube. Kind of ugly to see a white sock in the tank but it's so much better than a billion microbubbles. So now i no longer have a bubble issue.

    Hope this helps, good luck

The filter sock on the CPR skimmer is black if that might work for you. You probably can order it separately.
