Noticed last night my yellow tang is swimming very erratically. Charging at the glass full speed, fins up, swimming in tight fast circles. It almost looks like she sees her reflection, but I'm not sure that's possible.

I've had it for 6 months and never noticed it doing this before.

    Perams all normal. 0-0-.5

    Any ideas?

My YT has done that before, especially when I first put him in my tank. It seemed like he did see his own reflection as it was only in one part of the tank.

My regal tang and pink tail trigger does the same thing. Both are over a yr old and always have done it. as long as they arent hitting the glass they should be OK.

Reflection - they can see themselves without doubt

the cleanliness of the glass affects this as well as the amount of external light, so it might happen at certain times of the day/ evening and not at other times IME

So, should I do anything? I'll try cleaning the glass. I just don't want her to stress out.

When the glass is clean is when they see reflections better. They can't see if the glass is a bit dirty.

I smiled when I saw this post. They do that. I have had a couple over the years and the last one would go "spastic" almost every evening. Nothing to worry about, although, if you have other skiddish fish, it may annoy them and the stress could bring out ick. Get some Marine-Max by Tropical Science as a preventative.

My Kole tang and yellow tang did it a lot. My girlfriend went nuts when she first saw it happen with "her" yellow tang. It was funny.

my blue tang started that last night and is actually banging on the glass pretty hard..would ich disease play a part or maybe a sting from a softy or something.... the reflection off the glass has always been there, but yet it just started last night.
