oh god the smell!

im selling my odl setup right now but i decided i wanted to keep 2 relitively small chunks of live rock because i liked the shape that they had. I didnt want to worry about and hitchhikers or algea or any thing like that in the new tank so i took of the 2 pieces of live rock and put them in a bucket of freshwater with a lid on it hoping that I would kill absoultly everything on them. its been 6 days so i opened up the lid and I was hit... As soon as the lid came off I was hit with the smell of skunk, rotten eggs, and $h!t.

Did i do something i wasnt supposed to? I just want to turn live rock into dryrock because im going to sell the tank soon. any tips on how to eliminate all life on liverock? bleach?

 

Leave it out in the sun.

 

put it outside in the sun for 2 weeks.

 

you have to change out the water every few days and put a pump in there. lol it must smell like hell lmao

then after 2 weeks or so put it out in the sun for a few weeks

 

I'm sorry but ROFLMAO! I bet that was reeeeal bad. Death stinks! Yeah just leave it in the sun for a couple weeks.

 

Why not bleach it?

haha ya not so funny for me, now im gonna be scared of buying live rock at stores or even pulling it out of the water. i gotta say though the aftermath was hilarious, i got a wif and just yelled "oh sh..." so my little brother whos 13 come upstairs and asks what up? i told him to smell the bucket and when he did he fell over backwards into a wall
