How big is the bag? I like to give it a good 5-10 mins to equalize the temp. A damsel you could likely just throw in, but I would add roughly a shot glass of water every 10-15 until you've doubled the original amount of water in the bag. Then dump out half of the water in the bag. Add shot glasses again to double the amount of water in the bag again. He should be set to go by then. Careful adding the water from the store.. sometimes they keep copper in their water for treatment of ich and you don't want that in your tank.

tangster's way of doign it and I live by is placing your bag and dump it into your bucket, add the same amount of tank water to it, cover for 20 mins with a blanket then add again same amount and cover for 20 mins, thne place your hand in and pick it up. Trust me your fish wont be stressed and the temp is met. I love this way and will keep doign it. I even braved it with a sailfin and never got cut.

wow. holding them wont stress them. ha. you would be better off using a nice net that its fins can't get caught in. Once you pick up a fish there is a huge chance of dropping it. Good for you and tangster for doing it this way but I would not suggest it to a beginner. I can bet you can't even catch a damsel with your hands.

Even if others are doing it why recommend this to someone that obviously is not familiar with normal acclimation.

The best thing to do, for future reference, (hopefully your livestock is already in the tank considering you posted this thread over 17 hours ago lol) is float the bag for about ten minutes and put 1/4 cups of water in after that every 5 minutes. when the bag starts getting full, remove some of the water and add some more of yours with the goal of replacing all of the water in the bag with yours. Be careful not to get any of the water in the bag into your tank. I would suggest doing this for about 15-30 min depending on how hearty the fish or invert is. then take livestock out using a small net or pour him in (if you have replaced all of the water hes in with your water).

I didn't recommend that anyone do anything.

I let the bag acclimate to temp (10 to 15 minutes), grab the fish out of the bag and put it in. Easy. If I cannot get my hand in the bag (not very often), I acclimate, dump the bag of water and livestock through a net into a bucket and put the fish in.
