So i pulled my sand bed out of my other tank. The sand was starting to turn into the hard concrete like sand. I am setting up a FOLWR tank and I was wondering if washing out the sand will enable me to use it on the new tank set up? Or should I cut my losses?

    used sand

I used FW turtle substrate, it was full of poop. i hand washed it in side of a 5gal bucket 3 times with hot water....that's all i did.....1/3 full of sand and rest with water, i put my arm inside of bucket and went around and around fast.after it was spinning i slowly dumped out water.Filled back up and did this 3-4 times or intill water looked clean. I used many containers 3 for bad sand 3 for the good sand after cleaning it.after i did the 3 containers and started over..3 times. I used no chem's.

Yup....no problem. If you don't wash it you will get a really good cycle going. So wash, wash, wash. Yes I know from experience on this one. A two month cycle here.......

there is no dout that its gettting washed over and over. but will that be enough? I am more concered with the PO4 and No3 leaching out later on in the tanks life. then again it will be a FOWLR tank..
