I have had my 12 gal for 5 years, but recently lost most of my coral to an outbreak of GHA.

I was all bummed out (still am) when my husband noted that now I can buy all new coral. He reminded me I was looking at some a while ago, but didn't have room. I guess now I do.:-/

So, when I started out 5 years ago I did mostly softies and they did really well and multiplied in my tank.

Now I am looking at things like favia, plate corals, brains etc.

I'm wondering how these would do in my 12 gal tank. with my PCs. I've been reading a lot of the threads about favia and it seems they are particular to placement. I can only place it so far from my lights and I only have so much floor space.

So I'm wondering if anyone here has kept these in a 12 gal or what you guys think of keeping them in a 12 gal.

Oh yea, I like the acans too.

Any advice would be great!! Thanks

You could keep any of those under PC, when did you last change out your bulbs?

Acans are pretty easy LPS I would start with those, or favia.

I just changed them the end of January. I use to change them every Feb, but now i'm planning to change them every 6 months. My GHA was due to old lights and bad flow. (I didn't know I had to take my pump apart and clean the impella).

For some reason my nitrates are up to 1-2 ppm. I think maybe because I added another 10 lb of LS to my tank IN Dec.

I agree with Coralline. Nitrates are fine there.

My LFA has some nice acans in. They always have their tenticles out, they have nice color. They are 3-4 heads and start at 30$ and go up from there.

If I can get my nitrates down to 0 soon maybe I will pick one up.

I have read that people feed them. I had a sun coral for a while and had to feed each polyp, are they like that? Do I have to feed it meaty food?

Or do I feed them like my filter feeders? I feed my filter feeders 1 x a week. I switch between phytoplankton and a liquid food PhytoPlex and ChromaPlex.

Your current nitrate level is more than fine, IMO they may even like a little nitrate. Once you start getting around 15-20 ppm then start to worry somewhat.

Seems like those foods would be fine, I find that LPS like a meaty food as well, like mysis.

Nice. Best of luck. You will love keeping LPS corals. They are very responsive to change and that always interested me. Go for an acan first. The will probably be the easiest to keep and wont disappoint you as your first LPS. lol
