Wow that looks cool. If I had designed it, however, i would have made it slightly deeper. You know...8 feet deep would have been good. Maybe 12. A good backyard snorkeling depth :D And I'd probably have it in some sort of sun room or green house, so all I'd worry about is the sunlight. I wouldn't care if it was raining or snowing.

And yes, that is probably significantly more expensive to run. The evaporation must be terrible.

wow thats neat i guess but,
am i the only one that thinks this is pointless?
tons of algae scrubbing + an epic clean up crew
you really don't get to see it and enjoy it
plus your corals wont be very colorful at all it would be like running a tank with 6700k metal halides quick growth but no color really.

anyways just wanted to throw that out there, it is neat though

i like this Idea where is he/she located. I Plan on having a green house out back of my new house but the coral will be in ground like a salt water swimming pool. but not as big the cement walls will be my live rock and a bunch of stands. i like the idea of the covers when it rains as it will kill everything off if the rain got in the tank.

The LFS near my house buys their corals from a person in florida when they take big trips.
The person in Florida just sets the blue plastic kids pools out in their yard to grow corals.

There's a LR store somewhere that basicly holds their rock in a giant "swimming pool" tank. Just throwing that in there.

That would be a cool tank if you could have it indoors in a floor. You know, walking on the reef. But even that would lose its novelty after a while.

I thought about setting up an out door salt water pond for a while. I was going to use collected rain water for top offs.
