I'm just curious what everyone does to reduce the noise of water crashing down their overflow boxes (if it's a concern)?

I currently have some filter pads in their to reduce the "crashing sound", but they never seem to stay where I want them and have to be routinely cleaned.

    Anyone else?

    where is the noise located?
is it noisy at the overflow box coming out of the tank?
or is it the outflow at the sump?

it's noisy from the water spilling into the overflow and hitting the bottom of the box (which usually has an inch or two of water waiting to drain).

normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but my tank is right next to our couches in the main room....so that cascading water sound seems fairly loud at times.

you'll have to forgive me, but I purchased the tank complete so I don't actually know the size pump I'm running (it's internal though). i believe the size of return line to my sump in 1". there is usually about 1-2" of water waiting to drain at the base of the overflow box.

it's definately not the noise from the sump though...it's the water splashing in the overflow box for sure.

    i've heard of people using a "stand-pipe"?

I built a stand pipe out of 1" pvc and a 1" slip fix so I can adjust the height of the pipe at will.

It has it's moments, I haven't quite found that "sweet spot" yet because I just set it up a few days ago.

unfortunately, I'm at work and don't have access to any pictures. it's an internal overflow box in the back corner (roughly 6"x6"). my return line is also running up through the box.

and since i'm at work, my online capibilities are limited...so I'll have to watch that video later, but thank you in advance;D
