so i got my suump hooked up last nite. finished at like 330 am, every things is working great. except there is large gurggling noise from the over flow, actully it not really the hot portion its when the water goes down into the sump its seems to trap huge bubble that release and spalsh water and make gurggling sound, in the sump. is there any way to stop this?

nm it is the overflow part as water is drained in to the bulk head and down it make loud suction noise.

Can you post pictures of the inside of your overflow box and it's "related plumbing" along with a pic of your the sump below?

I have an overflow box that contains a "Durso Standpipe". This standpipe is specifically designed to reduce noise. Mine is almost silent when the doors to the sumb are closed. I just hear a little water girgling.

One good thing, your getting great gas exchange with all that bubbling action......;)

yeah, I had the same problem. It is VERY loud. Go get you some sponge, best type is the Nano cube sponge, and cut it up. You will have to play around with location a little to find what helps the best, but probably the noise is coming from where the water is entering the overflow and where the flow pipe is going back out to the tank(Sorry I am probably not using the right terms, they are going to have me help plumb my new tank so I can learn more about it this time) Place a piece of sponge (It is going to have to be thin) under that pipe or against the pipe and the overflow device (I did both) That did the trick for me for a while. I later had to add a sponge between the 2 pipes in the overflow to keep the gurgling noises down.

It did not obstruct the flow at all, and I figured it was just an extra prefilter.

I just change the sponges every couple months.

    Hope this helps

ok ill proly just shoot a vid of the whole thing, so you can hear and see it.

want to stay away from using filter pads all over.
