Well, i just looked and found a do not drill sticket on the bottom.
I suspect that means don drill.

I will go to the LFS where I got it and ask. I remember when I bought it they asked me if I wanted it ddrilled. Who knew..

    \Cheers

That just means do not drill the bottom thats why all tanks are drilled on the vertical panels ..Sticker says bottom is tempered do not drill if its a AGA or Oceaniacs

Also consider that all the HOB equiptment you have along your back wall will cast some unwanted shadows over your corals.
    drilled is my vote

Drilled is the way to go. Stuff hanging on the back is ok but for a bigger tank it is not very professional.

I did. That is a crazy Azz setup. Not one that I plan to pretend to understand or try to replicate. His tank has more holes than swizz cheeze . I thought you just need 2, 1 out 1 in.

I will compare the difference in cost and time to complete of the
    1. Drilling existing tank
    2. New 90 pre drilled with built in overflow
    3. HOB overflow. I have seen from5 0.00 to 199.00

Once I know the answes to the 3 questions above, I should be able to flip a three headed coin to decide..

The LFS should give me 80.00 for the trade ins on the cichlids so thats a start.

    \Thanks All

Just decide where you want the overflow and drill it on the vertical pane.. allow a 1" for the bulkheads flange to over hang the drilled hole on the overflow just drill about 2" to 3" above the bottom plastic band ..be it a 3 sided center overflow or if you use a 2 sided corner box I stay about 3" in from the outside tank corner and about the same height off the bottom band. As for anyone who ever ran a HOB overflow more then a few months that did not have a overflow then I'd say they have not ran them long enough.. I myself learned a long time ago to set mine up so the sump would only have enough water to operate and when I lost the siphon then the pump could not over flood it to much . that kept the flooded floor to a minimum amount.

The old style "U Tube" HOB overflows are bad for clogging and floods. The new style overflow boxes are awesome! Especially the ones that have the self priming pump to prevent floods when the power goes out. Instead of having a "U Tube" , this has a piece that goes across the length of the box, no chance of clogging.

This is what Im talking about... Continuous Siphon Overflow

OK, So then on the inside, the standpipe thingy needs a 90' to connect to the bulkhead, correct ? Does that slow down the flow enough to wory about ?
