Over flows are the sectioned off areas on a pre-drilled tank or can be a unit that hangs on the back of a non-drilled tank---their job is to send the tank water down to the wet dry sump--on a pre-drilled tank you need the stand pipes (Overflow Kits).

are the "overflow kits" universal? Or do i need a specific type for my specific setup?

I have a 120 that has a HOB overflow.. I'm wishing I would have had my tank drilled? I'm not sure if one is better then the other but U think drilling looks better.

If your tank is drilled then get the megaflow overflow kit (widely Available) about 65.00 It has all the adapters to fit any drilled tank

I think pre drilled is safer due to the fact that if power is cut you dont have to worry about siphon being broken--it will restart on its own. Plus it looks cleaner IMO. How do you get that LIVE signature?????

less to fail on a drilled tank. Power goes, siphons break. Gravity on the other hand keeps chugging along. I much prefer a drilled tank. So much so I drill my own now.

I would also go with a drilled tank. But I wouldnt buy the overflow kit. I would make my own durso stand pipes and just buy bulkheads. They are 100x better and quieter then the all glass/aqueon megaflow kit.

I found out the hard way. My tank is only on its second day and i already had to get rid of the noisy megaflow stand pipes. It took all of about 10 bucks and 20 minutes to make the new ones. They are so much quieter and work a heck of alot better in my opinion.
