I've read interesting stories on how air quality can seriously affect your aquarium, and since chemical sensitivities run in my family, I pay close attention to air quality in my apartment, no chemicals, perfumes, etc. I also run an ozonator and another air purifier to keep the air clean.

I have a general understanding of how ozone helps the aquarium, but not overly knowledgeable on it. Basically my question is this, is there anything I should be concerned about or monitor by using an ozonator in my house with the aquarium? At times I run it pretty heavy because the lady below me is a smoker and I crank it up to get rid of the smoke smell creeping into my place. I haven't run into problems before, but I figured it was worth asking about. I also don't have an ORP probe, but could get one for my RKL if you think I should. Thanks for your input.

I don't think you will see any of the benefits attributed to ozone use in an aquarium since it is not being injected into the water. It might create problems like atmospheric ozone does a known pollutant.

Hmmm interesting thread. It would seem to me any pollutants you can remove from the air would out way any problems.

But that is only a guess, will be interesting to see what others have to say.

How long have you been running your ozone generator? Is it near any electronics? I'm not sure about the affects on your tank but it will fry your electronics if its close.

Threre is an interesting section in " The Reef Aquarium Volumn 3, by Charles Delbeek and Juliam Sprung, located on page 194.

Basically it deals with Ozone use and trace elements. From what I can garner unless the ozone comes into direct contact with the volumn of water, like for say a skimmer or filter that is should have no direct affect on trace elements.

I have always been under the understanding that ozone always helped pull nutrients and help clean the water that much more. I have been told over and over its a good thing. as for trace elements I know skimmer and ozone take from this its not that it removes that much.
