So last night I was spot feeding my corals and while shining my low amp two LED light into the tank to view, I noticed an unusually large amount of pods coming to the glass. It was like a swarm!! Probably because I had my powerheads turned off.

So I spotted my mandarin and kept the light in her area for a bit. The pods naturally followed. I thought she'd jump at the chance of a possible feeding frenzy but she didn't. She began moving about a bit after I disturbed her sleep, appearing to wake-up. But alas, I didn't get the result I was looking for. I know mandarins aren't nocturnal feeders but I'm thinking of experimenting with this to try and promote feeding induced by light at night.

Maybe she just wasn't hungry? She's not starving by any means and is pleasantly plump! I've only had her a month and a half. When I bought her she was a tad lanky. She picks all day long, as they normally do, just never see what she's munching down.

Anyone ever entertain a similar idea?

If she is plump and doing well then let her be. Don't fix what isn't broke ;)

once it's lights out, mandarins are in a unconscious state, nothing wakes them up, except daylight. Even reefbrite led strips don't keep my mandarin up, that guy is down for the count as soon as the halides go off.

Huh, I thought they did their hunting at night when other fish slept.

I like to experiment and break things, if you will, so that I can fix them ;)
