As part of preparing our house to be sold, we will be painting most of the house. The room that my tank is in won't be painted, but I have a 100 year old house, and it's pretty porous.

My big concern is with the basement. They will be using 4 sprayers at a time to get it looking nice. Vapours really travel in my house.

Any suggestions at to what to do to help protect the tank, or do I not need to worry? At the minimum, I was thinking of making sure the carbon in my reactor is brand new, and adding another bag of it to my media tray in my sump.

Otherwise, I'm planning to keep the windows in the home open, and setting up exhaust fans to keep the airflow going.

Would it be worth it to kill the lights and cover the tank with plastic during the actual painting?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

I would cover the tank myself. Don't want to take any chances.

Yeah, cover that thing up. Not even worth the risk.

covering it and sealing it are not the same thing... might want to think about plastic and tape :-/

also, if it were me, I'd get a air pump with outside air being pumped into the "sealed" environment...

25 feet of airline tubing is like 7 bucks at wallymart and an air pump is pretty cheap too. I'd plug it in outside and run the tube under the plastic sheeting - not into the water, just above it for gas exchange.

What do you guys think about turning off the skimmer? Or attaching above outside air supply to skimmer air supply tube?

I didn't think of turning off the skimmer.... good suggestion. Also, I may shut down my sump while they are doing the actual spraying and leave my koralias running for flow. My overflow sucks in a lot of air. I have 250 lbs of LR in a 110 gallon tank, so I think I should be okay for the hour or so that it takes them to paint.

Did I mention that I hate moving? LOL
