Pairing Clownfish

    My roommate has a pair of clownfish that pairing up right now, one of them is showing the dominance (beating up the other!) how long does this process take? we don't them to kill eachother!

    What kind of clowns are they?

    Nipping and shaking are normal. But if it gets to the point one is hiding or displaying tattered fins someone may have to intervene.

    Mine still go through periods of fighting, they have been together 3 years, but it never last longer than a couple of days.

    It sounds like the female clownfish is showing submissive behavior. The male will turn sideways to the female and tilt its belly towards the her and quiver like an epileptic seizure to make her to make her recognize the behavior and stop the attack short of actual damage. Sometimes it can be the opposite.
