as some of you know i was kinda swindled into a pearlscale butterfly by a lfs. it has eatn my clam already is it a risk to corals. most of the sites ive seen have said they are only a risk to clams and are coral safe. so does anyone know the factualness about this?

It is in the family Chaetedon which eats coral like a pig. SPS and LPS was not safe by any means with mine. I can attest to that first hand. What type of coral do you keep? . I looked around on the web and every source I've read says it may be safe with some of the nastier corals like leathers. Mine did not bother any softies that I noticed. Fish are very adaptable though. I saw that your corals are hiding in nets as of now. Maybe if you can get it's diet switch over to a meaty diet it will leave you corals alone. Keep you corals in nets and buy a cheap frag to see what happens. I have always wanted to keep butterflys with my coral and would personally love to see someones success.

    Good luck.

This is interesting subject to me. I've got a heiniochis and want to combine tanks. I have mostly softys and a leather. I really want to combine my 90 fo with my 72 reef. I was planning on a 150 reef ready but I'm worried that the heiniochis will eat my corals.

What species of Heniocous is yours?

Pearl will eat clams, snails, crabs, scallops, SPS, LPS Not sure on softies and leathers.
It is a beautiful fish. It makes me want to have a FO tank. Was eyeing one at me LFS today.

I've heard alot of people on both sides of the conversation. Some say they will eat and peck at everything in your tank, and some are in established reef system and dont touch anything. It depends more on the fish being happy and satisfied with what you are feeding it and the frequency of it being fed. If its hungry or doesnt like its diet it will peck at everything.

Mine is a Red Sea Bannerfish(heniochus intermedius), in my fo tank he only really eats mysis shrimp and doesn't pick at much.

Sorry to hear it didn't make it. They are an awesome fish.

This seems to fall with what I have been reading. The span from the Acuminatus, Singularis, Intermedius, Diphreutes from least to most reef safe.
