So in the process of changing up my light cycle in hopes of controlling some cyno and hair algae, I have noticed my peppermint shrimp getting paler almost to the point of looking like a ghost. I did notice that after the lights have been on for a while its color does become more of the traditional red, but i wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this?

    Thanks!

I noticed when I put my peppermint shrimp in the sump because they were harassing my LPS that they definitely became paler but it could be that they were not growing as fast because they definitely slowed down their molting schedules. It's possible that they were not getting as much food as they were in the DT so who knows if it was really related to light levels or just general health. That was my experience anyway.

From everything I have read about them they are reef safe with just having to watch that they may not get along well with Coral Banded Shrimp of the same sex, and may pick on other shrimp species as well.

some are reef safe, some are not. I had 4 in my 72gallon at one time. Only 1 of the 4 ate corals. It only liked the frogspawn though. Then my clowns started hosting the frogspawn and it no longer goes near them. All of the other peppermints passed away. They only live 1-2 years. They are considered reef safe, but just watch them for awhile. They eat aiptasia, which is a type coral anemone, so they are most likely going to eat other soft corals too.
