PH low

sup guys, i was wondering what can i use to raise the PH just a little more, its been at 7.8...

 

is it 7.8 during the middle of the day or 7.8 late evening after lights out?

have you tried taking a cup of water from your tank out, and pumping some air into it using air pump/ air stone, and then 1 hour later testing PH in that cup of water

if the PH is higher - your low PH is due to excess CO2 in the tank and more water flow churning up the water surface may help you naturally increase the PH

i always test the water at night,but with the lights on... i havent try the cup test but i will when i get home.also i have alot of flow in the water, when u say churning,u mean pointing the powerheads little towards the surface?

 

ok i just tested the PH again, its bout 6am,lights off, it looks like its around 7.8-8.0 im useing API kit..

 

yes you do need a good ripple, if not a wave across the surface IMO
It helps with gas exchange and it also stops any protien based waste being trapped by the surface tension (oily white film)

Ok, I just left the house but when I get back I'll move the powerheads little bit, also it might help my mushrooms, it seems they getting much flow on the sand..

 

ok,i test the PH when i got home,lights on, still bout 7.8-8.0, which i think those readings still good,but i would like to be more like 8.2-8.4 ...

 

How long has the tank been up and running? When I first began my journey in the sw world the first 4 months my ph was about 7.6. I kept adding reef buffer, moving a powerhead to break up the surface water, and opened my windows at night when it was nice out. All those things did help raise my ph but as the tank matured the ph started to balance out without the need of all the those things.

 

When is the last time you did a good water change? What is your bioload?
