    Night/day doesnt matter so much as when in your lighting cycle, as lighting will raise PH.

    well i cant wait to find out because i stay in a studio and my wife smokes in the house and if i have evidence supporting me that the smoking in closed quaters is causing a problem she will have to smoke outside the hell away from my tank lol

    No Ive done this test a few times and never once come up with Chicken butt

    I reckon your PH increased

    I wouldn't have let her smoke in the house with the possibility of the pathogens in the smoke getting into the tank.
    All kidding aside, I'm glad you found the source of your problem. :)
